Bethesda says good bye to monthly subs for The Elder Scrolls Online and welcomes in new-gen console versions
Rumours have been circulating for some time now about The Elder Scrolls Online possibly going free-to-play, not to mention questions about its delayed release on consoles. All those rumours can now be put to rest as Bethesda has finally spoken.
Today, Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will release worldwide on June 9, 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For the first time, players will be able to explore the legendary world of Tamriel with their friends on their home consoles.
Additionally, Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will no longer require a monthly game subscription for extended play. That’s right, game subscriptions just took an arrow to the knee! Players will simply make a one-time purchase of the game, giving them access to hundreds of hours of content without the requirement of a monthly subscription fee. This will come into effect on March 17, 2015 for PC/Mac players.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will include all the of the exciting game play from the original PC/Mac game, plus all of the updates and addtional content, such as the new Justice and Champion systems. All existing PC/Mac game accounts, open or closed, will be updated to the Tamriel Unlimited edition in March. Former players will be able to return to the game at no additional cost, while new players can make a one-time purchase of the game and play.
With the removal of subscription fees, comes the inclusion of optional charges. Although, updates and new gameplay will be offered to all players to enjoy free of charge, players will be able to purchase optional downloadable content for Tamriel Unlimited, as well as an in-game Crown Store being included for convenience and customization items.
Bethesda will also be offering ESO Plus to players who wish to pay a single monthly charge for a premium membership service. ESO Plus will grant players with exclusive in-game bonuses, a monthly allotment of crowns to use in the store, and access to all DLC game packs while they remain a member. PC/Mac players with active subscriptions on March 17, 2015 will be automatically enrolled into ESO Plus.
