[Update] FIFA 15 experiencing issues with PS4’s SharePlay

UPDATE: Apparently FIFA 15 has not been blocked from SharePlay, the feature is experiencing issues with a few titles and not just FIFA. PlayStation has since tweeted about the issue and have resolved it.

Original Story: “FIFA 15 becomes the 14th title to block PS4’s SharePlay”

EA has blocked FIFA 15 from working with Sony’s SharePlay feature on the PlayStation 4. Gamespot reports that users attempting to use SharePlay with FIFA 15 are greeted with the following message: “Viewing the game screen that the host is currently playing is not allowed due to content restrictions in your country or region“.

SharePlay is a feature exclusive to the PlayStation 4 that allows users to play online with their friends as long as at least one of them has a copy of that title. For example, you can join your friend in his latest online session while you do not actually own the game yourself. SharePlay sessions are limited to 60 minutes at a time.

This makes FIFA 15 the first EA title to block the feature and the 14th title to block SharePlay in total. Other games that have blocked the feature include the likes of: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Minecraft, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Tomb Raider, Metro Redux, Hotline Miami, and Thief.

When initially announcing SharePlay, Sony assured fans that the feature would be available on all titles. However, it later explained to Gamespot that developers could disable the feature for their games if they wanted to:

Share Play is a system level feature enabled by System Software Update 2.0 making it available for all PS4 titles, however the option is available to developers to disable the feature according to what they feel will best benefit the consumer experience.Gamespot

The feature that seemed so generous to begin with is quickly becoming less useful to players. We can’t really fault Sony for this as it’s up to the developers if they want to block SharePlay. I can only imagine that certain developers don’t like the idea of people accessing their games for free. Although sessions are limited to 60 minutes at a time, the amount of SharePlay sessions is not limited, meaning you could continue to play your friend’s copy as much as you wanted, it would just be in hour sessions.

Not surprised. The only games that will eventually work with this feature are Sony’s 1st party and a few 3rd party exclusives from Konami or From Software I’m sure.

Looks like they got it fixed. That’s good. I still don’t care much for the feature as you aren’t experiencing it like your friend will be. Which is 1080P and solid 30fps. With Share Play, like PSnow you’ll be playing every game at 720P / 30fps or less. If you have a Wifi, the lag will be bad and the game will be tough to play unless you’re playing a turn base JRPG, puzzle or stratagy game.
