A Final Fantasy VIII remake would be beautiful, if these screenshots are anything to go by
Now don’t get too excited, these aren’t official Square Enix screenshots. They are fan art of Balamb Garden created by Scott Honeycutt, a talented 3D environmental artist. They may not be official, but they are pretty impressive and give a good idea of what a HD remake of Final Fantasy VIII might just look like. Honeycutt describes exactly how the images were made, stating
Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite title of the Final Fantasy franchise, my heart skipped a beat when I initially saw these images as for a split second I thought a remake could actually be on the way. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case, but who knows, this stunning portfolio might just impress Square Enix enough to consider remaking it. One can only hope.
I’ve always considered that remaking a highly popular game would be a sure bet for companies, so part of me wonders why they don’t do it more often. Just look at Nintendo and Majora’s Mask 3D, the internet was ecstatic to hear that news. However, I also realise that as a game creator you probably don’t want to keep rehashing the same old thing, instead you want to create exciting new stories and I guess we can’t really fault them for that.
