343 temporarily removes playlists from The Master Chief Collection

Halo

In an effort to combat the matchmaking issues players are experiencing in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, 343 Industries has made the decision to remove certain playlists temporarily. The decision to limit the playlists available is to improve how quickly players will be able to find online matches.

We are aware that while some users are reporting improved Matchmaking experiences, many users have not seen an improvement. As a result, we are temporarily moving to a limited playlist layout that will allow for players to find games faster.

The playlists that have been removed are the following: Team Hardcore, Rumble Pit, Halo 4, and SWAT (rotational). This is a temporary solution, not only does 343 Industries plan to add the playlists back at some point, it also acknowledges that this solution will not fix all of the matchmaking issues.

This concentrated playlist layout will allow players to get into matches faster, and improve overall match times. While we anticipate that concentrating our players into fewer playlists will have an effect on match times, it will not solve all Matchmaking issues. We are currently investigating CUs and server side tweaks over the next week to address matchmaking issues.

However, Executive Producer, Dan Ayoub, has stated that the team has “identified the primary matchmaking issue” and that they are “working on a solution right now“. Hopefully Halo fans will be able to play without persistent matchmaking issues in the near future.

Recently, the state of new releases seems to be pretty appalling between Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Assassin’s Creed Unity. Although I appreciate that both companies are working hard to resolve the issues, I can’t help but wonder why the games were allowed to be released in that kind of state in the first place. I would rather have a game delayed so that it was fully playable on release.
