Professor Layton and Fantasy Life sequels will be for smartphones

When I read last month that Level-5 would be announcing Professor Layton 7 and Fantasy Life 2, both of which have reigned as popular titles for the DS and 3DS, I couldn’t have been happier. However, today those dreams have been crushed as Level-5 announced that both forthcoming titles would be released for smartphones.

The Professor Layton title features cards and fortune-telling, with players apparently having to discover who the vampire is. It is due to release this summer in Japan for iPhone and Android devices. A Nintendo 3DS version of the game was originally planned also, although no mention of this was made during the reveal today.

Fantasy Life 2: Two Moons And The Village of God will feature 12 Lives, as well as a new “Village” feature. While it appears as though the focus of the game will mainly be players building the city, familiar characters will be making a return, as well as the option to form parties and take on monsters in the field. The game will launch in Japan this Summer for iPhone and Android devices.

A western release for either title remains unconfirmed. On the bright side, at least Level-5 has confirmed that it will be bringing Yo-Kai Watch to the West.
