In case you lost track, Treyarch have kindly reminded everyone that it is indeed their turn to try to ‘innovate’ the, as recently announced, $11 billion franchise. In a recent tweet from the official Treyarch Twitter account, the studio confirmed they would be developing this year’s Call of Duty.

The group even teased that they may have already started developing the game. Thanks for the reassurance, Treyarch. This year’s CoD will be the first title Treyarch will have developed to benefit from the new three-year developer cycle the series now has, sharing development between Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward. From a sales point of view, Activision forecast even greater sales of this year’s title compared to those of Advanced Warfare last year, pointing out the greater platform stability following the generation transition in 2014 as a factor in fewer sales than that of Ghosts.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said during an earnings report:

There has been much speculation recently over what the next title will be; whether it will be a new edition to the two established Treyarch titles with either a Black Ops 3 or perhaps even a World at War 2, or alternatively like last year’s, a new title all together. Either way, zombies are almost certainly guaranteed and with Black Ops and Black Ops 2 being the two best-selling Call of Duty titles of all time, my bet is a Black Ops 3. Although, I’m still hopeful for a nostalgic return to Germany and the Pacific, where the likes of ridiculous killstreaks and equipment were a thing of the future.
