Blizzard apologises for rocky Warlords of Draenor launch with free game time

World of Warcraft‘s latest expansion, Warlords of Draenor, has arguably garnered more excitement than any of its previous expansions. However, due to the influx of new and returning players, World of Warcraft was unable to handle the masses and it resulted in many players being unable to log in for lengthy periods of time. The login issue was so bad that the owner of r/WoW, nitesmoke, took the subreddit offline in protest.

Blizzard has worked around the clock to resolve the situation as much as possible and already players have seen an improvement in login times. However, that still leaves the sore memories of the first few days of unbearable torment as players were unable to play the latest content. As an apology, Blizzard will be offering free game time to anyone who had an active subscription on November 14, 2014. World of Warcraft Executive Producer, J. Allen Brack, posted in the official forums to apologise for the state of the Warlords of Draenor launch and announce the free game time:

In recognition of the difficulties so many of you ran into when trying to play over the first few days, we’re adding five days’ worth of extra time to every subscription in the Americas, Oceania, and Europe that was active as of Friday, November 14.J. Allen Brack, Executive Producer of World of Warcraft

Brack also explained what the team has done to improve the capacity of the World of Warcraft realms. By expanding the new instancing tech used to improve queues over the weekend, as well as continuing the process of applying the same tech to raise the capacity of all realms even further, Brack promises that it will “result in approximately double the prelaunch capacity on each realm”.
