Destiny demo and trial available now

Yesterday, Bungie launched its new Destiny demo for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as its Destiny trial for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Both of which offer players a sample of character creation, progression in story mission content, as well as co-op and social play. The demos and trials are available for digital download via the PlayStation and Xbox stores. The approximate download size for each version is as follows:

  • Destiny trial on PlayStation 4: 20 GB of disk space
  • Destiny trial on Xbox One: 20 GB of disk space
  • Destiny demo on PlayStation 3: 6 GB of disk space
  • Destiny demo on Xbox 360: 6 GB of disk space

It’s worth noting that an internal hard drive is required to participate in any Destiny demo, trial, or retail copy. External storage devices, such as USB sticks, are not supported.

Considering Destiny received mixed reviews, this is definitely a good move on Bungie’s behalf to try to tempt any players still sitting on the fence to check out Destiny. Should the trial or demo win you over and you purchase the full retail version, any progress you made will be carried over as long as it is within the same console platform. For example, you wouldn’t be able to transfer your demo progress from your Xbox 360 to either your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3.

Players can upgrade to the full version of Destiny by digital download or by purchasing a retail disc from their local retailer. Once the full version of Destiny has launched and players confirm to carry over their existing character progression, the Destiny demo can then be deleted as it will no longer be required.
