Prepare for Apotheon in Jan 2015 - will it be classic in more ways than one?

Apotheon

“Epic” and “classic” are both words we often use to describe something that’s pretty damn awesome. They’re also words that used to get thrown around a lot in my Classical Civilisation classes. Yes indeed, I’m that person - the Classic Civ geek. So imagine my delight to hear about Apotheon, the side-scrolling combat, hack em’ up inspired by Greek mythology. Well, those two words and a few more came to mind.

The minds behind Apotheon, Alien Trap, have just announced that the game will be launching for PC and PlayStation 4 in January, 2015. At least now I know how I’ll be spending my new year.

Apotheon uses beautiful Greek pottery-style visuals, which going by the trailer, lend themselves extremely well to the level design. The player takes control of humanity’s last champion who must rise against the gods and end their tyrannical hold over the mortal realm. By stripping the gods of their powers and taking control of the elements, humanity might just have a chance at survival. Although the story line sounds like it might tip over to the side of cliché, I actually have faith that this title could really deliver something special. For me, Apotheon is definitely one to keep an eye on, it may even be the first game I play of 2015.
