World of Warcraft invades Shanghai as subway station gets its own Dark Portal
Only a couple of months ago Blizzard partnered with McDonald’s in China to give several McDonald’s outlets a World of Warcraft make-over in anticipation of the release of its latest expansion, Warlords of Draenor.
Just to go one step further, Blizzard and NetEase have now created a Dark Portal in one of Shanghai’s busiest subway stations. The portal features a camera on one side and a screen on the other. Fans can stand on one side whilst everyone on the other side can see them seemingly trapped in another dimension with the occasional World of Warcraft character being thrown in randomly.
I always love these kind of publicity stunts, it’s good for the company behind it because it builds hype and it’s great for the fans because they can have a laugh. I wish things like this happened more often, more importantly, I wish they happened closer to where I live!
