Sony abandons The Last Guardian trademark

As of today, February 16, 2015 the trademark U.S. serial number 85700141, “The Last Guardian“, was abandoned, meaning that Sony has decided not to renew its trademark for the game. The status of the trademark currently reads: “Abandoned because no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued“.

What does this mean for the future of this title that most gamers have desperately looked forward to for years? Well, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Sony has given up on the project, it could simply be renaming the game. Sony has already abandoned the trademark of “The Last Guardian” once before, trademark U.S. serial number 77750563, so this current news could mean absolutely nothing.

As of last August, Sony stated that The Last Guardian was still in development. It seems hard to believe that a game that already has such a fan base would be so easily abandoned, however, it’s been such a long time since we’ve had any real news on The Last Guardian that I just don’t know any more.
