GAME increases the price of unreleased amiibo figures

The scarcity of certain amiibo figures is getting pretty damn ridiculous. You know it’s getting silly when even the Super Smash Bros creator, Masahiro Sakurai, has to vent his frustration at not being able to find his favourite characters in stock anywhere.

After the initial realisation that certain amiibo figures were in short supply just before Christmas, UK retailer GAME increased the price of amiibos and Super Smash Bros related accessories. The price of the amiibo figures went from £10.99 to £14.99 both in stores and online. GAME later dropped the online price of amiibos back to £10.99 once more, however, GAME stores still sell the figures at £14.99 a piece. With three more waves of amiibo figures on the horizon, GAME has increased its online amiibo prices back to £14.99, but only for the unreleased characters.

Any amiibo figures that are already out can still be ordered for £10.99, if they’re in stock that is. However, all the figures available to pre-order have now jumped up to £14.99. GAME customers who have already pre-ordered the figures have received emails stating the increase in price, yet reassuring them that they will pay the original lower price. I’m guessing that GAME is anticipating another mad rush for the amiibos on release, and when demand is that high, the price increases follow.

The forthcoming amiibo releases are the following: on February 20, 2015, Mega Man, Sonic, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Shulk are all due to release. A month later on March 20, 2015, the classic collection launches with new figures of Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, and a new Toad figure. Lastly, on April 24, 2015, Charizard, Wario, Robin, Lucina, Ness, and Pac-Man will be hitting store shelves.
