Is Nintendo planning on releasing gold and silver Mario amiibo variants?

Just when you thought the amiibo situation couldn’t get any worse, it appears Nintendo is going to release more figures that will likely be hard to get hold of. The existence of the two Mario variants came to light via some Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) certificates posted to Nintendo’s website, however, they have since been removed. The gold and silver amiibos are variants of the new classic Mario amiibo that is scheduled to launch alongside Mario Party 10 for Wii U on March 20, 2015. Is it possible that these variants will be releasing at the same time?

Nintendo hasn’t officially announced the metallic variants and no websites appear to be taking pre-orders for them. It’s possible that they will be exclusives to a specific retailer or something similar. Whatever way they are obtained, I imagine their numbers will be even more limited than the standard amiibos that are already difficult to get hold of. I can hear the amiibo hunters groaning in frustration already…
