More Heavensward and patch 2.5 details revealed at Tokyo Fan Festival

This weekend the final Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival took place in Tokyo. Director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Naoki Yoshida, revealed even more exciting news about the first expansions, Heavensward. The expansion will be launching in Spring of 2015 for PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 and will add new areas, flying mounts, new jobs, a new race, and more!

Fans already knew that a new playable race would be implemented with the release of Heavensward, but it wasn’t until the Tokyo Fan Festival that Yoshida officially revealed the new race - the Au Ra. Just as many fans suspected, the character Yugiri is in fact an Au Ra and so many believe she will reveal her face in patch 2.5. This new race originate from the continent of Othard, they have prominent reptilian features such as scaled skin and tails and also have horns.

Dark Knight was already revealed at an earlier Fan Festival, however, two other jobs will be released alongside this with the launch of Heavensward. There will be a new healer role, Astrologian, which channels celestial magicks through their star globe in use a divining deck to support their fellow party members. The gunner job that was previously hinted at is Machinist, a DPS role that wields firearms to deal damage from afar and employ turret-like weaponry on the battlefield.

The next major raid challenge was also revealed, the mechanical fortress Alexander. This new end-game raid will feature two different modes, normal and hard. It was also announced that Nobuo Uematsu would be composing the Heavensward theme song.

Heavensward Collector’s Edition were also unveiled. A digital version will also be available for those who don’t want to fork out for the physical edition. The physical special edition will include:

  • A dragon figurine
  • An art book
  • A disc featuring various videos and trailers
  • Digital in-game items exclusive to the Collector’s Edition: a griffin flying mount, a helmet designed after FFIV’s dark knight Cecil, and a wind-up Kain minion.

Yoshida also revealed more news on patch 2.5, there will be three new dungeons, The Keeper of the Lake, Amdapor Keep (Hard), and Wanderer’s Palace (Hard). Patch 2.5 will also contain the conclusion of the Crystal Tower raid series, the World of Darkness. The highly anticipated Manderville Gold Saucer will be implemented in Patch 2.5, which will feature mini games such as Triple Triad and Chocobo racing.
