David Gaider, lead writer of the Dragon Age franchise for the past decade, not only of all 3 games but of novels and comics too, has announced that he is leaving the world of Thedas for new pastures. Making the announcement via Twitter, Gaider explained that he would be leaving the Dragon Age team to work on a “new, upcoming BioWare project“:

Gaider stated that while it was hard to leave after ten years, he had decided it was time for something new. He also announced that Patrick Weekes would be taking over as lead writer, assuring fans that as Gaider will still be working at Bioware, Weekes will be “within easy glaring distance“. So I assume Gaider will give him a look of death if Weekes starts going crazy with the Dragon Age lore.

I’m not sure what to make of the news, it’s sad to see him go as I love the world of Dragon Age, but then it’s exciting to think what of what Gaider can achieve in a new project. I hope that Weekes will continue the franchise in the same spirit, only time will tell. Gaider didn’t specify whether he would be the lead writer of the new project, or working under another Bioware employee.

As for the project that Gaider is going to work on, it could be the same brand new IP that Bioware teased at E3 last year. It could also be one of the other projects that Bioware has in the works, which we’ll hopefully hear more about at E3 this year.
