FFXIV: EU Heavensward pre-orders currently unavailable as Square Enix store experiences issues

SE

As previously stated, today is the day that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn fans can pre-order the forthcoming expansion, Heavensward. The problem for European players is that they currently can’t pre-order at all. The Square Enix online store has been displaying an error message for hours now, with Square Enix finally putting a “system maintenance” banner in the mean time. As the game doesn’t appear to be available for pre-order anywhere else, European players have no choice but to wait for the website to be up and running once more.

Square Enix has apologised for the Heavensward pre-orders being unavailable, stating that there are currently “issues on EU SQUARE ENIX STORE“. It’s unclear as to how limited the Collector’s Edition of Heavensward will be, naturally, fans are beginning to worry that they will miss out on the coveted Collector’s Edition due to the downtime.

The physical Collector’s Edition will include the game, a dragon statue, an art book, a blu-ray disc that will contain all 2.55 cut-scenes as well as previous trailers that have been released, all encased in a beautiful box that features artwork by Yoshitaka Amano. Additionally, the Collector’s Edition includes in-game items such as the Flying Griffin mount, a Wind-up Kain minion, a bottle of Fantasia, and a Baron helm, modelled after Cecil’s helm from Final Fantasy IV.

Anyone who pre-orders the expansion will be able to access the game early on June 19, 2015, as well as receiving the Baron Circlet and Earrings, as well as the Black Chocobo Courier minion.

We’ll let you know as soon as the website is up and running, stay tuned in the mean time. Heavensward is due to release on June 23, 2015.

/sigh. I hope the EU folks get their chances to order. Seems like Japan had no issues. They sold out of the CE in 1 hour. Looks like I’ll be heading across the street to order 2 copies in the US. One for me and one for the GF.

not too bothered about physical CE myself. But is it worth me getting expansion when im only lvl25?

You won’t be able to get to the new area until you progress to a certain point in the story, which I’m fairly sure requires level 50. You have until June though, so you can do it 😛

What concerns me the most is that to be even able to ACCESS the expansion, level 50 is not even REMOTELY enough.

You need to be level 50.
You need to have completed all 2.0 main story quests.
        And 2.1 main story quests.
        And 2.2
        And 2.3
        And 2.4
        And 2.5
        AND 2.55!!

Only once you have completed ALL of those up until a quest in 2.55 (whose name escapes me) will you be allowed access to the expansion. What does that say for new people, hoping to jump on the XIV bandwagon?

I am recording 100% of ONLY the main story quests and i can tell you right now, that just as an example only, 2.3’s main story alone is 3 HOURS long. And that is only ONE of the major patches. There are 5 of them! Plus the minor story patch, 2.55.

Given that there is one big story revolving around the game, that sounds pretty normal. Think of it as a second volume of a fantasy novel. You would usually start reading the 1st volume before the 2nd. Albeit for different reasons a lot of MMO expansions often expand the top end content and it’s been like that for 20 years of gaming, it’s not like this is new.

          • MouseNo4

I have no problem with it. No, NEW gamers are the ones i am concerned about. They get to 50 only to find out they CANNOT progress. I cannot guess what they will do… but with the finicky nature of gamers these days i fully imagine huge swaths of players rage quitting over being forced to play 20 hours of content JUST to reach the new content AFTER they have gotten to the level requirement.

            Gamers are instant gratification people.

          • Bryan

Yeah I see. I think there will always be those gamers though, and one couldn’t do anything about it. You make a faster paced RPG and there will be plenty of seasoned RPG gamers who complain that it’s too short. Given that it’s being advertised as an RPG, one could only hope the target demography is made up more of those who find the lengthy approach pleasing than distressing. Beyond that it’s anybody’s guess one way or the other, I suspect there will be a lot of them who find the ‘finicky’ reference patronizing. Then again, there will also be many who will fit into that stereotype. I get that.

          • MouseNo4

The problem being, this is the first MMO RPG ive heard of where reaching the level requirement is not enough to progress to new content.

  • Kevin Bowers

Only managed to get one level last week lol, not sure about that!

  • MouseNo4

Still cant get my copy. I DO already have the Collector’s Edition pre-ordered but mine is the American version which… contains useless digital content i cant apply to my ”europe and other regions” account. If i go ahead with it, i will still get the physical items which i very much want… but i will need to buy an additional standard edition for PS4 as i am going to getting the CE’s contents as part of the digital deluxe for PC as i play on both platforms. Three copies of the game! PC digital deluxe, PS4 Collector’s Edition and PS4 digital standard edition.

IF i can manage to secure my CE from the European store, i can then cancel my American one.
