Five non-essential things I’d like to see added to Final Fantasy XIV

FF

With the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s first expansion, Heavensward, fast approaching, I thought about what things I’d like to see added to the game. Rather than choose the normal things people generally go for, I’ve opted for the non-essential choices that would be nice to have but not necessary. Borrowing heavily from other MMOs, I list my top five non-essential things I’d like to see added.

1. Account-bound minions/mounts

Similar to the way in which pets and mounts work in World of Warcraft, I wish that all of your characters on your Final Fantasy XIV account had access to the all of the minions/mounts you’ve earned on any character. It would be handy for hard-to-get minions/mounts from certain dungeons, or past event ones.

2. Dyes that remain unlocked once you’ve obtained them

The way that dyes work in Guild Wars 2 is that once you’ve obtained them you can use them any time at the click of a button. Although I get that dyes in Final Fantasy XIV are another thing to craft and make gil from, it’s just irritating having to stock up on dye every time you fancy an outfit change. To be honest, I’m probably just more used to the overly convenient way in which the dyes work in Guild Wars 2. I’m lazy, I know it. I don’t think this will ever actually be implemented.

3. The ability to gift optional item store items to other players

Again, taking a leaf out of World of Warcraft‘s book, it would be great to be able to gift other players and friends with some of the minions or other items from the real money optional items store. Seeing as the optional item store is less than a year old, I think this could be implemented one day. I imagine the main problem with this would be incorporating the friend list to the Mogstation to allow players to choose who to gift to etc.

4. Ability to trade/sell Triple Triad cards

It seems like such a waste to get doubles or even triples, of rare Triple Triad cards and not be able to give them to friends. Additionally, it would mean that players who are not adept enough to get some of the cards from dungeons but enjoy Triple Triad could still complete their card collection.

5. Inventory upgrade options

Similar to that of the gobbie bag quests for Final Fantasy XI, I’d love to see optional inventory space available for purchase. I know we can technically buy more retainers for real money via the optional items store, but it would be nice to see an in-game way to increase your inventory. I’m a hoarder, I just can’t help it.
